When this engine is properly equipped, it has 5,300 pounds of towing capacity. This engine will also likely be mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission that will optimize and distribute this force.

Carrying the Load
The Explorer has always been a sizable SUV, and we expect nothing less from the 2022 model. In addition to having plenty of towing ability, you can also expect to find plenty of cargo volume in the cabin when you look at the 2021 iteration of this set of wheels. Behind the third row, you’ll have a cargo volume somewhere in the ballpark of 18.2 cubic feet.
This space can likely be extended by folding down the second and third rows of seats to max out your cargo volume somewhere around 87.8 cubic feet.
The Explorer should also prove quite spacious in terms of its ability to seat you and your passengers comfortably. Based on the 2021 model, we expect the 2022 Explorer to offer 152.7 cubic feet of passenger volume across its three rows of seats, allowing you to seat up to seven with ease.
Advanced Technology and Driver-Assistance Features
The 2022 Ford should also come with a suite of technology that will prove quite capable when it comes to both multimedia and safety. In terms of multimedia connectivity, the 2021 model came equipped with a FordPass Connect™ system. This feature provides drivers remote access to their vehicles from their mobile devices.
