About Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Whether you’ve had your own battle with breast cancer, have a loved one who has struggled with it, or have another story, millions of people have had their own experiences with this disease. To increase understanding of breast cancer and help move recovery efforts forward, October has been designated as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Our Goal

Breast Cancer Awareness Month Waldorf MD

In partnering with the Susan G. Komen foundation, we hope to help bring awareness and show our support for everyone who has been impacted by this disease. In setting this goal, we’ve set a fundraising target for October. So far, we’ve raised over $600, and we are well on our way to surpassing our goal of $1500.

  • About Susan G. Komen - The Susan G. Komen foundation is the largest nonprofit fighting the battle against breast cancer. Since its founding in 1982, the organization has invested over $2.9 billion into research and other preventative efforts, helping reduce deaths related to breast cancer by 40% from 1989 to 2016.

  • Advocate for Early Screening - Screening is critical in uncovering breast cancer and treating it. That is why it is important to be screened early and regularly, to catch the disease. Whether you’re getting screened yourself, advocating for others to get screened, or are donating to help those get the screening they need, it can help save a life.
  • Spread the Word  - One way you can advocate for early breast cancer screening is through your social media. Additionally, posting on social media throughout the month of October can help raise awareness for the disease.
  • Proudly Wear Your Pink Ribbon - The pink ribbon has become the universal symbol for breast cancer awareness. Wearing it proudly throughout October or year-round can signify your status as an ally and remind those around you of the importance of the disease.
  • Volunteer  Volunteering to help with a nonprofit can also be a great way to get involved!
